Our Educational Program
We are committed to providing a developmental and educational program which caters for each child’s individual needs, abilities and interests. We present a wide range of experiences to form a positive curriculum that contributes to each child’s learning and development outcomes in relation to their identity, connection with community, wellbeing, confidence as learners and effectiveness as communicators. These are based on the individual identities, ideas and interests of each child and shaped by the diverse context of our centre, relationships with children, families, educators and the community, and professional decisions made by highly qualified and experienced educators who are guided by the principles and practices of the Early Years Learning Framework: Belonging, Being and Becoming, The National Quality Framework, Early Childhood Australia’s Code of Ethics principles and their own pedagogical beliefs.
We appreciate that children learn more effectively through play, and our educators are diligent in their responsiveness to each child to support this. Applying strong intentional teaching practices, we provide children with an authentic and meaningful learning environment that challenges, supports and nurtures a child’s development, whilst also adhering to an anti-bias, inclusive, non-stereotypical program that caters to individual needs and supports culture and diversity.
We actively seek information from multiple sources to direct our teaching and support the co-construction of a child’s learning journey, including being highly attentive to children’s conversations, actions and play, enquiring into their ideas, opinions and questions, encouraging the involvement and input of families. and implementing a thorough ongoing cycle of planning, documenting and evaluating, to foster a holistic view of each child and to cater to their individual needs, strengths and abilities.
We promote children’s independence and self-help skills through facilitating appropriate opportunities to influence their world through expressing choices in experiences and demonstrating responsibility, thus enhancing their emerging sense of agency, positive self-identity and genuine connectedness to others.
Our educators and teachers are always willing to discuss any aspect of a child’s learning and development with their parents. We provide formal documentation to families of their child’s journey with us throughout the year, and our monthly newsletters and closed Facebook page act to supplement the regular informal chats, text messages and emails ensures families are always kept informed of their child’s experiences at ‘Little Learners’.
If we, as educators, ever have any concerns about your child’s development, we will provide you with these insights in a confidential and private manner and offer your family support and guidance, including advice and/or referrals to allied health professionals where appropriate should it be requested.
